FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OSS Nokalva and OPUS Publishing sign a working agreementDecember 21, 2000: OSS Nokalva and OPUS Publishing sign a working agreement to maximize the use of ASN.1 (Abstract Syntax Notation) for specifying information to be exchanged between Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). IEC standards 8824 and 8825 define the use of ASN.1 and provide specifications for encoding/decoding the messages to be exchanged. Substation automation standards such as IEEE P1525 (out for ballot) and IEC 61850 (Committee Draft for Vote (CDV)) are two standards that use ASN.1. OSS Nokalva, based in New Jersey, is the premier developer of ASN.1 related software and is very active in the development of related standards for information exchange.
