IEEE PC37.115 ballot results

Dennis Holstein, Publisher
November 2001

Last month I gave a brief description of PC37.115. Click here to review its description.

After considerable administrative delay, PC37.115 went to ballot.

IEEE ballot procedures

Once the balloting starts, IEEE SA requires two conditions to be satisfied. First, 75% of the total ballot pool must respond, and second, 75% of approve plus disapprove ballots must be "approve" to have the ballot pass.

PC37.115 ballot results

PC37.115 proceeded with the first ballot knowing full well that a recirculation of many parts of the standard would be required to resolve several issues. This is a normal IEEE SA procedure. That said, the ballot results are:

Closing date 20 October 2001
Ballot pool 60 eligible people
Affirmative votes 46 93% affirmative
Negative votes 3
Abstention votes 3 11%
Ballot response 52 86% received

Next step - Ballot Resolution Committee

Buried in many of the comments are many good editorial and technical remarks that must be addressed by the PC37.115 development team. A Ballot Resolution Committee (BRC) will be established to address these issues. This work will begin at the PSRC meeting in Dana Point, CA during the week of January 7,  2002.
